About

Studio Terrarasa is a collaborative atelier founded by multidisciplinary artists Kathleen Melville Rosenbloom and Marcelle Frey, creating sculptural furniture and objects in ceramic and bronze. At the heart of the studio is the belief that collaboration is an act of trust - a willingness to exchange ideas freely, challenge one another, and allow two distinct creative instincts to evolve into a singular vision. The resulting work carries the imprint of both artists while belonging wholly to neither.
Kathleen and Marcelle often say, "everything we make begins outside." Nature is both a starting point and a recurring language for the studio: the textures and forms encountered on hikes, through travel, in gardens, and in the changing landscape. Their respective backgrounds - Kathleen in fashion and Marcelle in interior and furniture design - bring different perspectives on form, proportion, material and construction to a shared practice rooted in hand-building and experimentation.
Underlying the work is the Indian philosophy of Rasa - the belief that art holds the power to awaken pure emotion and evoke spiritual transcendence. The name Terrarasa reflects this idea alongside the studio's deep connection to earth, material and the natural world.
Working primarily in ceramic and bronze, Studio Terrarasa embraces the evidence of the hand and the unpredictable nature of material. Each piece develops through an ongoing conversation between the artists and between material, process and form. Rather than seeking uniformity, the studio is drawn to work that feels alive: sculptural, tactile and expressive.
Studio Terrarasa is located in Chinatown, Los Angeles. They are currently showing at JK Project in Southampton, following their participation in Onna House, East Hampton's exhibition In Her Hands: Marble to Wood. The studio's third collection of furniture and objects will debut in winter 2027.
